Kunchenjunga Trekking
(Kanchenjunga Region) is the trek to the base camp of the world's third highest peak, Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking, which is rich in natural beauty. In this vary region, a number of Glaciers originated from Himalaya have, no doubt, added beauties of this region. In the northern side Sherpa people in habit and ethnic group such as Rai, Limbu, Magar, Tamang, Brahmin, Chhetri etc inhabit in the southern lower part of Kanchenjunga region. The rather scattered type of ethnic settlement will show rather ethnic type of religion. The Kanchenjunga Himal (Trek to Kanchenjunga) is situated in the eastern frontier between Nepal and India. It is 8586m high. The trekking to this region was started only in 1988 because of relatively strenuous part and the presence of numerous wild animals, birds and flora pleasing abundantly. This area houses, Musk deer, Blue Sheep and legendry Yeti.

Trekking in Kanchenjunga moves ahead through Suketar, a Chhetri village. From here, you will enjoy walking on the route along a ridge towards the Tamor River, enjoying the panoramic views of Makalu (27825 ft), Chamlang (24000 ft). The route continues upto Tamor River through Limbu villages (where a pot of village Tongba can be had) to the terraced mountain side village of Amjilassa and the legendary Sherpa village of Ghunsa (11400 ft). The lovely monastery in Ghumsa makes for an interesting visit before the first glimpse of a sea of unclimbed peaks including Jannu (25289 ft) known as Mystery Park or Terror Peak is visibly seen. The trail goes on to reach the edge of the Kanchenjunga glacier and after crossing the lateral moraine , you will come to the junction of Lorak glacier (15680 ft ) and the valley beyond it . The campsite of Lhorak can be reached by crossing the junction, an undisturbed landscape of unspeakable beauty. Your journey even reaches to Pangpema (16900ft) to admire the north face of Kanchenjunga.

Kunchenjunga Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu, Tribhuban International Airpot.
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu, you will be welcomed heartily by company representative at the airport and transfer to hotel with a short briefing session reflecting ancient local tradition, shrines and temples found over here. Overnight in Kathmandu. (1000m)

Day 2: Kathmandu sightseening Tour
.Visit World Heritage site in Kathmandu including Kathmandu Durbar Square , Patan Durbar Square , Pasupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath, Swoyambhunath ( also called Monkey Temple)as a half day trip . Overnight stay in Kathmandu (1000m/280ft)

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Basantapur (1900m).

Day 4: Trek through mossy rhododendron forests eventually leading to Chanki (2700m).

Day 5: Receive your first views of various peaks including Kanchenjunga. Stay overnight in Gupa Pokhari.

Day 6: Continue ascending early through interesting & gorgeous forests. Camp at night by the river at Dovan.

Day 7: Most of the day you follow the river up the Tamor valley through rocky forests upto Mitlung.

Day 8: Cross the river and continue up, the path narrows, you eventually reach the village of Chirwa.

Day 9: Trek upto Gunsa Khola valley. Riverside camp near the Tibetan village of Sakathum.

Day 10: Enter an arid landscape and follow a hairy trail upto a crest. Descend slightly to Amjilessa.

Day 11: Dorests of bamboo, oak and rhododendron, waterfalls, pastures and great views up to Kyapra.

Day 12: Descend steeply into the side of the ravine, trek along the street to Yak pastures and upto Gunsa.

Day 13: Acclimatization day at Gunsa. Trek to the lake at the Yamatari Glacier.

Day 14: Tackle the unstable slopes leading upto Tibetan settlement of Kambachen (4040m)

Day 15: Acclimatization day at Kambachen. There are a number of day hikes to help acclimatize.

Day 16: The trail is rocky then crosses moraines. Camp at Thonak, the views prevails from all direction.

Day 17: Trek upto the base camp of Pang Pema (5140m). Watch the sunset over Kanchenjunga.

Day 18: Hike up the ridge early. The panorama is spectacular, Kambachen overnight.

Day 19: Trek to Kambachen to Gunsa.

Day 20: You trek along a long trail that is difficult to distinguish. Camp at Tseram, large flat meadow.

Day 21: Walk along the moraine of the Yalung glacier. The valley opens up, camp at Ramche (4420m)

Day 22: Day trip to Yalung Glacier.

Day 23: Start your trail descends today taking down to different route to Chirwa.

Day 24: Trek down from Chirwa to Anpan (2250m)

Day 25: Descend down from Anpan to Pokhari (1700m)

Day 26: Trek down from Pokhari to Taplejung (2350m)

Day 27: Fly back to Biratnagar and take a flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 28: Transfer to International airport for your final departure by the representative.
