Tibet Overland Tour takes you to highest and largest table-land known as plateau within vast Tibetan landscapes, where adventure takes you to the fabled city of Lhasa and Shigatse with the scenic and wonderful drive. Adventure leads you to excellent views of Ganesh-Langtang-Jugal Himal with Mt. Shisapangma as experience an adventure of a lifetime heading across Himalayan Mountains from Nepal side to reach at Tibetan frontier at Kyirong and then into the arid and dry windswept country, completely out of this world. The journey continues past farm villages within Yak country crossing highest pass over Gyatso-la 5,220 m to reach Tibet’s second largest city at Shigatse. Shigatse home of Panchen Lama second to Dalai Lama, with a tour of Shigatse Tashi-Lumpo monasteries complex, a marvelous place and then towards Yamdrok known as turquoise lake and reach over high Khamba-la pass and then to Lhasa. In Lhasa enjoy a wonderful time with an exciting tour of old Drefung-Shera monasteries of great interest includes magnificent Potala Palace, a former winter resident of Dalai Lama, where tour leads you at colorful Barkhor Square and market the central hub of Lhasa, witness local culture and custom of Buddhism religions within Lhasa and on the route. Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m from Kathmandu - 06 hrs.

Day 02: Drive to Kyirong 2,890 min local Guesthouse - 04 hrs.

Day 03: Drive to Shegar or New Tingri 4, 350 m - 06 hrs.

Day 04: Drive to Shigatse 3,900 m - 05 hrs. 

Day 05: Visit Tashilumpo Monastery and drive to Gyantse 3,950 m -03 hrs.

Day 06: Drive to Lhasa 3,650 m via Yamdrok Tso Lake - 05 hrs.

Day 07: In Lhasa with sightseeing tour at places of great interest.

Day 08: Drive to Lhasa / Gongor Airport and fly to Kathmandu - 1 hr: 15 mins. 


Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m from Kathmandu 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Morning an interesting drive towards North-West on the road to Langtang Himal, to reach at Dhunche the headquarter town of Rasuwa district around Langtang, as drive leads to Syabrubesi village for an overnight stop after an exciting drive.

Day 02:  Drive to Kyirong 2,890 min local Lodge or Guesthouse - 04 hrs.

From here drive leads to enter Tibet where morning ride takes you from Syabrubesi on the newly built road on old Trans-Himalayan Trade Route linking Nepal and Tibet to reach at Rasuwa-Gandhi located above 1,800 m. Which is about 15 km a few hour drives from Syabrubesi, on reaching frontier received by our Tibetan counterpart guide and drivers, after completing immigration & customs formalities on both sides of the frontier Nepal / Tibet at Rasuwa-Gandhi, continue to drive further to Kyirong county with a first overnight stop in Tibet accommodation at local guest-house. At Kyirong afternoon with time to relax and enjoy views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal that borders Nepal and Tibet.

Day 03: Drive to Shegar or New Tingri 4, 350 m - 06 hrs.

From Kyirong starts Tibetan scenic plateau morning drive leads past Tibetan farm villages to reach on top of Lalung-La Pass at 5,050 m)with views of Mt. Shisapangma at 8,013m high. After Lalung-la heading towards high and dry terrain to reach at Old Tingri with views of Mt. Everest and Cho-Oyo, from here an hour drive to Shegar also known as New Tingri and then transfer to your hotel or lodge for oven overnight stop.

Day 04: Drive to Shigatse 3,900 m - 05 hrs. 

Traveling on high Tibetan plateau after Shegar, morning drive leads to highest pass of the adventure on top Gyatsho-La over above 5,220 m high and then downhill to Larze town, located on the mid way of Mt. Kailash and Shigatse at Friendship Highway also called Lhasa & Kathmandu Highway. From Larze town, a short drive on the good road to reach Tibet's second largest city Shigatse, after an enjoyable ride reaching Shigatse where hotels get better than other few nights stops, at Shigatse transfer to excellent hotels with modern facilities of Wi-Fi and money change at its exchange counters.

Day 05: Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m visit Phalkor Monastery and Kumbum - 03 hrs.

The morning after breakfast, the tour takes you to Tashilumpo Monastery with golden-roofed and observe pilgrims with prayer chanting and spinning wheels, a holy seat of Panchen Lama second highest priest after Dalai Lama. After a tour of Tashilumpo Monastery drive for few hours to reach Gyantse then transfer to a nice hotel or guest house with an afternoon tour of old Phalkor Monastery and great terracotta Stupa of Kumbum, famous historical monuments located within great surrounding walls of this holy complex.

Day 06: Drive to Lhasa 3,650 m via Yamdrok Tso Lake - 05 hrs.

Morning overland drive heads to Lhasa, the drive continues past Simi-La pass around vast Tibetan plateau and witness Yaks grazing on huge green meadows. As ride progress heading past Karo-La pass with close views of Nzong-Khansa peaks at 7,100 m high where ice falls and glaciers flow near to the road ahead. Enjoy views and observe Drokpa (Nomads) and Yak herder traditional life then reach Nagarktse town and beyond towards turquoise Lake of Yamdrok Tsho then on high hills to reach another scenic Khamba-La pass at 4,800 m high. Khamba-La offers a super panorama of Tibetan tableland and landscapes with distant views of snowcapped peaks and of Yamdrok Tsho Lake. From here after marveling the scenery heading downhill to come across a bridge over Yarlung Tsangpo / Brahmaputra River, slowly our overland journey reaches in the heart of Lhasa city in the backdrop of magnificent Potala Palace. At Lhasa our hotels located on the old part of Lhasa within east areas near colorful and exciting Barkhor Square and its markets.

Day 07: In Lhasa with sightseeing tour at places of great interest.

At Lhasa with an interesting tour of important sites around its historical and religious places, beginning with short drive west of Lhasa towards a hill top with a tour of old Drefung Monastery, in the early day home of all high priest and Dalia Lamas before Potala Palace was built. Here visit the main prayer halls with monks on deep prayers where Drefung means a heap of rice with its white washed buildings as it looks from distance views, after a great interesting visit drive to Shera Monastery where you can witness young monks on exciting debate, which deepens their knowledge of all types to reach their priesthood. Shera monastery located north of Lhasa after an interesting time with a lunch break in local Tibetan / Chinese restaurants, afternoon tour of magnificent Potala Palace known as 'Heavenly Realm' with 1,000 rooms where visitors can tour only the main important interior of 8 to 10 rooms of great significant. Potala Palace stands in the hub of Lhasa city a beautiful Landmark of Tibet, where main-superior priest Dalai Lama residence till 14th last Dalai Lama, at present turn into a museum. After an impressive tour back to busy colorful Barkhor Market Square with time to visit Jhorkhang Temple, the oldest religious sites of Tibet. As the day end in Lhasa, with time for individual activities around Lhasa before dinner time on last day in Lhasa.      

Day 08: Drive to Gondor Airport and fly to Kathmandu - 1 hr: 15 mins flights.

Depending upon flight time for Kathmandu, our Tibetan guide transfer you to Gongor Airport international airport about an hour drive from Lhasa for flight back to Kathmandu, as per your time board into Air China for scenic sweeping air journey of an hour with amazing panorama of Himalayan chain of peaks with Everest at close distance as plane lands at Kathmandu airport. From Kathmandu airport transfer back to your hotel with the afternoon free for individual activities
