Everest Gokyo Lake Trekking is quite different to other scenic places of Everest and Khumbu areas, where this route leads you into a serene environment with fewer numbers group of trekkers on this quiet trail facing daily views of high snow-capped peaks.

Starts with an exciting short flight from Kathmandu to reach at Tenzing and Hillary small airstrip in Lukla, the airport named tribute to late mountaineers who first stepped foot on top Mt. Everest.

From Lukla walk leads on moderate gradual path visiting nice villages well-tended farms around Sherpa country interwoven with age-old traditions custom of Buddhism where route leads to follow Dudh Kosi River within the shade of pines and rhododendron tree lines and heading high towards famous Namche Bazaar.

At Namche Bazaar having time with rest days for acclimatization in this exciting large and main hub of Khumbu and the center for many adventures around high Khumbu valley within Everest.

As walks lead on scenic trails then our route diverts from the main base camp path heading due north to enter into the picturesque valley at Gokyo with its simmering calm glacial lakes surrounded by high peaks.

While in Gokyo with ample time where early morning hike takes you to steep uphill to reach on top, the highest point of the adventure at Gokyo-Ri above 5,483 m and 19,083 ft high facing incredible panorama of world four highest mountains with Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu in the east includes arrays of lesser peaks.

After mesmerizing moments at Gokyo valley head back to Namche on downhill trails to reach at Lukla town for next early morning short flight to Kathmandu with grand enjoyable adventure and fabulous experience on Everest Gokyo Lake Trekking.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, gretted by one of our airport representative and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing (World heritage site)

Day 03: Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and walk to Phakding 2,560 m - 04 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs. 

Day 05: At Namche rest day for acclimatization and short hike.      

Day 06: Trek to Dole 4,210 m - 06 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo 4,470 m - 04 hrs. 

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m / 15,744 ft - 04 hrs.

Day 09: Climb to Goyko Ri at 5,483 m/19,083ft afternoon at leisure and rest.

Day 10: Trek back to Dole 4,210 m - 06 hrs.

Day 11: Trek to Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs.                                    

Day 12: Trek to Lukla via Phakding village - 06 hrs.

Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 14:  Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.


Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On reaching at Kathmandu international airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome then transfer to your hotel in centre of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed in your rooms join for group briefing regarding your stay in Nepal, where Nepal High Point Treks guides will provide information on treks-local lodge-hotels-culture and other necessary information related to Everest Gokyo Lake trekking.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing (World heritage site)

Sightseeing around Kathmandu, as the valley is steeped with many world heritage sites and important monuments and religious-historical sites. You will visit Pashupatinath (Hindu Temple), Baudanath stupa, Swyambhunath stupa (Mokey temple), Patan durbar square.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and walk to Phakding 2,615 m - 04 hrs.

Early morning Nepal High Point guide and staff will pick you from your hotel for short drive to Kathmandu domestic airport, completing security formalities board in a small aircraft (Dornier / Twin Otter or similar plane) where short and scenic flight heads eastbound facing views of Himalayan range with includes Mt. Everest, and then lands at Lukla Tenzing and Hillary airport named after legendary mountaineers. From here having refreshing morning break walk continues on a gradual trail with some down-hill and short ups to reach first overnight stop in Phakding village, a nice Sherpa village situated above near Dudh-Kosi River. 

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs.                                        

A slow an easy morning walks leads to Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, with time here for refreshing stop then cross a bridge to reach at Jorsalle the last village before Namche Bazaar (possible lunch stop), from here walk on river bed within forested area and then climb from the last high bridge to reach at famous and colorful Namche Bazaar. Where walk leads to climbing on winding uphill facing views of peaks, at Namche check into a nice and cozy lodge, with time to wander around its many well-stocked shops, Namche Bazaar the hub and main town or large village of Khumbu area where colorful and busy Saturday market held once a week.

Day 05: At Namche rest day for acclimatization and short hike.         

Rest day at Namche for acclimatization before heading towards higher terrains, with various options for short walks to catch best views of high peaks will be a good hike to Everest View Hotel, a four hours walks both ways, rewards you with an excellent panorama of mountains with Everest and magnificent Amadablam. At Namche visit in the interesting museum with much information of Khumbu Sherpa, culture, flora-fauna as well of mountaineering expedition history with the rest of the afternoon at leisure. 

Day 06: Trek to Dole 4,210 m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant and enjoyable time at Namche, morning walk leads with a short climb and on gradual scenic trail facing views of Everest, Amadablam with an array of peaks. As walks lead into greenery within woodland then our route diverts from the main Everest Base Camp trail heading straight north with a steep climb for an hour to reach Mong hill, a place with few shops and the small lodge offers an excellent panorama of mountains range with Everest in the north. From here on the downhill to Phortse Tenga village by the bank of Dudh Kosi River within wooded areas, where afternoon walk leads to a climb into a gorge within the forest of pines and rhododendron to reach a small settlement at Dole for an overnight stop.

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo 4,470 m - 04 hrs.

After Dole with pleasant overnight stop, from here onward tree lines drops for short bush of rhododendron and juniper, as walk leads to a short steep climb and then on level path for an hour to Lhabarma Kharka at 4,325 m and to Luza at 4,390m; then walk around ridgeline with first glimpse of Machherma, located below a small valley, finally reaching at Machherma for overnight stop.

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m / 15,744 ft - 04 hrs.

Morning walk leads to Gokyo Valley and into its serene lakes following on scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m, then climbing a rocky path into ablation valley passing the first lake and second lake, then reaching the third lake called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake. At the bank of the Lake where summer settlement located of Gokyo at 4,790 meters, after lunch a short walk of the lake with a view of Mt. Cho Oyo world’s 06th highest, and Gyachung Kang with reflection on emerald Gokyo Lake.

Day 09: Climb to Goyko Ri at 5,483 m/19,083ft afternoon at leisure and rest.

Early morning hike to Gokyo Ri at 5,483 m the highest and highlight of the adventure, from here enjoy the panorama of world’s highest mountains Mt. Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Taweche and to the east views of Mt. Makalu.  After a great exciting moment descend to Gokyo for lunch with the rest of the afternoon free to enjoy surrounding beautiful sceneries.

Day 10: Trek back to Dole 4,210 m - 06 hrs.

After a marvelous time within beautiful surroundings, morning walk leads to long downhill with some ups to reach at Dole, a place with a number of good lodges for an overnight stay. On reaching Dole back into green vegetation and tree line with time around to explore within this nice quiet area within a river gorge. 

Day 11: Trek to Namche Bazaar - 05 hrs. 

Morning catching a peaceful and pleasant overnight at Dole walk leads downhill within the green forested area to reach Dudh Kosi River and then climb to Mong Hill, from here walk leads on the gradual winding path to Namche Bazaar for last night in Khumbu before Lukla.

Day 12:  Trek to Lukla via Phakding - 06 hrs. 

Our last final day of the adventure with long day treks to reach Lukla starting with descending to reach a river valley and at Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit to Monjo village, where walk continues past Phakding with last short climb to reach at last overnight stay in Lukla before flying back to Kathmandu.

Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Having early breakfast where interesting short scenic flight brings you back at Kathmandu, as you depart from Lukla early morning, as air journey leads you with an amazing panorama of mountains and then landing at Kathmandu airport with short drivel back to your respective hotels. 

Day 14: Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.

Last day in the country of high Everest within massive Himalaya, with wonderful short experience and adventure on Everest Gokyo Lake trek, then depart from the hotel as per your flight time as Nepal High Point Treks staff transfers you to Kathmandu international airport for your homeward flight or to next respective countries.

Here’s a complete rundown of what to bring if you’re planning a trek to Everest Base Camp or any other tea-house trek in Nepal.  Proper preparation and equipment for the conditions will go a long way to ensuring you have a great trekking experience.  What follows is a pretty comprehensive list and will make sure you are covered in the coldest months of the year. If you have questions on what you might need just ask us and keep in mind that Kathmandu is a great place to buy trekking gear at affordable prices.

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS AND ITEMS

  • Valid passport, 2 extra passport size photos, airline tickets
  • Separate photocopies of passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance
  • Dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks, and to purchase your own drinks and gifts
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (bring a photocopy of your cards), traveler's checks, etc.
