To start this fabulous adventure Gokyo and Everest Base Camp Trekking with a short panoramic flight to land at Lukla airport, a famous town and gateway to many adventures around high Khumbu valley within Everest region.

As walk begins heading into Dudh Kosi River valley on the gradual path into nice interesting Sherpa villages and forested areas with a long climb to Namche Bazaar the main and large village of high Khumbu Sherpa, where once a week Saturday market held which is exciting to witness.

With time at Namche heading towards remote isolated corners of Khumbu with constant views of Everest and adjoining mountains as walks leads into Gokyo valley surrounded with magnificent views of high peaks that reflects on its calm glacial lakes.

At Gokyo hike to scenic Gokyo-Rithe for a fantastic panorama of world highest mountains with views of Mt. Cho-Oyu- Everest-Lhotse and Makalu in the east includes a range of mountains.

From Gokyo valley and it been beautiful lakes walk leads beyond Ngozumba glaciers to cross over scenic Cho-la pass to reach on the foot of Mt. Everest at base camp hidden by mighty peaks of Nuptse and Lhotse with massive Khumbu glacier and ice-falls.

After completing our main target and highlight with another climb on top Kalapathar which will be the highest point of the adventure at above 5,545 m high facing close views of Everest and surrounding giant peaks.

Enjoying the great thrill and spectacular scenery around high Khumbu valley and then on the downhill to reach the marvelous spot at Thyangboche Monastery with time to marvel the beauty of this area visiting its impressive monastery.

Outline Itinerary: 

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing (World heritage site)

Day 03: Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and walk to Phakding 2,560 m - 04 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs. 

Day 05: At Namche rest day for acclimatization and short hike.      

Day 06: Trek to Dole 4,210 m - 06 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo 4,470 m - 04 hrs. 

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m / 15,744 ft - 04 hrs.

Day 09: Climb to Goyko Ri at 5,483 m and walk to Thagnak 4,780 m - 04 hrs.

Day 10: Cross over Cho-la (Tsho) pass 5,420 m to Dzongla - 4,784 hrs -08 hrs.  

Day 11: Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m - 05 hrs. 

Day 12: Trek to Everest base camp 5,364 m and back to Gorakshep- 06 hrs.

Day 13: Hike to Kalapathar 5,545 m and trek to Pangboche 3,900 m - 06 hrs.

Day 14: Trek to Namche Bazaar via Thyangboche 3,867 m - 06 hrs.

Day 15: Trek to Lukla via Phakding village - 06 hrs.

Day 16: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 17:  Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.


Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On reaching at Kathmandu international airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome then transfer to your hotel in centre of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed in your rooms join for group briefing regarding your stay in Nepal, where Nepal High Point Treks guides will provide information on treks-local lodge-hotels-culture and other necessary information related to Gokyo and Everest trekking.

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing (World heritage site)

Sightseeing around Kathmandu, as the valley is steeped with many world heritage sites and important monuments and religious-historical sites. You will visit Pashupatinath (Hindu Temple), Baudanath stupa, Swyambhunath stupa (Mokey temple), Patan durbar square.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and walk to Phakding 2,615 m - 04 hrs.

Early morning Nepal High Point guide and staff will pick you from your hotel for short drive to Kathmandu domestic airport, completing security formalities board in a small aircraft (Dornier / Twin Otter or similar plane) where short and scenic flight heads eastbound facing views of Himalayan range with includes Mt. Everest, and then lands at Lukla Tenzing and Hillary airport named after legendary mountaineers. From here having refreshing morning break walk continues on a gradual trail with some down-hill and short ups to reach first overnight stop in Phakding village, a nice Sherpa village situated above near Dudh-Kosi River. 

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 06 hrs.                                        

A slow an easy morning walks leads to Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, with time here for refreshing stop then cross a bridge to reach at Jorsalle the last village before Namche Bazaar (possible lunch stop), from here walk on river bed within forested area and then climb from the last high bridge to reach at famous and colorful Namche Bazaar. Where walk leads to climbing on winding uphill facing views of peaks, at Namche check into a nice and cozy lodge, with time to wander around its many well-stocked shops, Namche Bazaar the hub and main town or large village of Khumbu area where colorful and busy Saturday market held once a week.

Day 05: At Namche rest day for acclimatization and short hike.         

Rest day at Namche for acclimatization before heading towards higher terrains, with various options for short walks to catch best views of high peaks will be a good hike to Everest View Hotel, a four hours walks both ways, rewards you with an excellent panorama of mountains with Everest and magnificent Amadablam.  At Namche visit the interesting museum with much information about Khumbu Sherpa, culture, flora-fauna as well of mountaineering expedition history with rest of the afternoon at leisure. 

Day 06: Trek to Dole 4,210 m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant and enjoyable time at Namche, morning walk leads with a short climb and on gradual scenic trail facing views of Everest, Amadablam with an array of peaks. As walks leads into greenery within woodland then our route diverts from the main Everest Base Camp trail heading straight north with a steep climb for an hour to reach at Mong hill, a place with few shops and the small lodge offers an excellent panorama of mountains range with Everest in the north. From here on the downhill to Phortse Tenga village by the bank of Dudh Kosi River within wooded areas, where afternoon walk leads to a climb into a gorge within the forest of pines and rhododendron to reach a small settlement at Dole for an overnight stop.

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo 4,470 m - 04 hrs.

After Dole with pleasant overnight stop, from here onward tree lines drops for short bush of rhododendron and juniper, as walk leads to a short steep climb and then on level path for an hour to Lhabarma Kharka at 4,325 m and to Luza at 4,390m; then walk around ridge line with first glimpse of Machherma, located below a small valley, finally reaching at Machherma for overnight stop.

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m / 15,744 ft - 04 hrs.

Morning walk leads to Gokyo Valley and into its serene lakes following on scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m, then climbing a rocky path into ablation valley passing the first lake and second lake, then reaching the third lake called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake. At the bank of the Lake where summer settlement located of Gokyo at 4,790 meters, after lunch a short walk of the lake with a view of Mt. Cho Oyo world’s 06th highest, and Gyachung Kang with reflection on emerald Gokyo Lake.

Day 09: Climb to Goyko Ri at 5,483 m and walk to Thagnak 4,780 m - 04 hrs.

Early morning hike to Gokyo Ri at 5,483 m the highest and highlight of the adventure, from here enjoy the panorama of world’s highest mountains Mt. Cho Oyo, Gyachung Kang, Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Cholatse, Taweche and to the east views of Mt. Makalu. After a great exciting moment with time at Gokyo for lunch and continues walk to Thagnak an isolated place beneath Cho-la pass.

Day 10: Cross over Cho-la (Tsho) pass 5,420 m to Dzongla - 4,784 hrs -08 hrs:

From Thangnag starting early morning walk climb leads steadily towards Cho-la pass for few hours, on reaching at the top views of Nirekha-Lobuche peaks with the close face of Cholatse, and then descend towards a small hidden valley at Dzong-la for an overnight stop.  In snow condition, this route can be quite difficult and the guide will decide whether it’s possible to proceed or retrace by another safe way.

Day 11: Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m - 05 hrs.

After an enjoyable time Dzongla with the crossing of high Chola pass, where morning walk leads to short climb on a ridge top, facing views of high peaks and then on a good gradual path to walk. Our route leads on the winding path above Pheriche valley with views of Cholatse and Taboche peaks as walk takes higher above Thugla, where massive Khumbu glacier melts into a raging river. Walk continues with gradual up to reach at Lobuche located on the corner of a wide valley beneath peaks of Lobuche East and West.

Day 12: Trek to Everest base camp 5,364 m and back to Gorakshep- 06 hrs.

Adventure today leads to our goal at Everest base camp, as morning walk follows a flat valley with a slow climb to reach further and then a steep climb to reach a ridge near above Khumbu glacier. As walk continues over rocky moraines and ice to reach a scenic flat areas at Gorakshep located at the bottom of Kalapathar and Mt. Pumori on route Everest base camp, at Gorakshep with a short break. From Gorakshep heading further east to reach to reach highlight destination at Everest Base Camp with marvelous views of Khumbu Ice-Falls, glaciers looking above peaks of Nuptse, Everest and Lhotse, in high mountaineering season of April to May this grand spot flooded with tents of expeditions. After an exciting times achieving our target walk back to Gorakshep for an overnight stop before heading downhill back to Lukla with a climb of Kalapathar.

Day 13: Hike to Kalapathar 5,545 m and trek to Pangboche 3,900 m - 06 hrs.

Early morning before breakfast climb on a top rocky hill above 5,545 m to reach the highest spot of the adventure, where you will be rewarded with a glorious panorama of giant surrounding peaks with close views of Everest and Mt. Pumori. After a great wonderful moment descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast and then carry on trekking down to Pheriche valley for an overnight stop in one of its nice lovely lodge. Pheriche located on a scenic valley close to Dingboche where HRA (Himalayan Rescue Association) stationed near this settlement.

Day 14:  Trek to Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs. 

From Pangboche reaching with a climb to beautiful Thyangboche and its colorful monastery reaching back into green woodland, from here a lovely walks of downs and ups and on the nice scenic trail to Namche Bazaar for last night in Khumbu before Lukla.

Day 15:  Trek to Lukla via Phakding - 06 hrs. 

Our last final day of the adventure with long day treks to reach Lukla starting with  descend to reach a river valley and at Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit to Monjo village, where walk continues past Phakding with last short climb to reach at last overnight stay in Lukla before flying back to Kathmandu.

Day 16: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Having early breakfast where interesting short scenic flight brings you back at Kathmandu, as you depart from Lukla early morning, as air journey leads you with an amazing panorama of mountains and then landing at Kathmandu airport with short drivel back to your respective hotels. 

Day 17: Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.

Last day in the country of high Everest within massive Himalaya, with wonderful short experience and adventure on Gokyo and Everest Base Camp trek, then depart from the hotel as per your flight time as Nepal High Point Treks staff transfers you to Kathmandu international airport for your homeward flight or to next respective countries.

Here’s a complete rundown of what to bring if you’re planning a trek to Everest Base Camp or any other tea-house trek in Nepal.  Proper preparation and equipment for the conditions will go a long way to ensuring you have a great trekking experience.  What follows is a pretty comprehensive list and will make sure you are covered in the coldest months of the year. If you have questions on what you might need just ask us and keep in mind that Kathmandu is a great place to buy trekking gear at affordable prices.

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS AND ITEMS

  • Valid passport, 2 extra passport size photos, airline tickets
  • Separate photocopies of passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance
  • Dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks, and to purchase your own drinks and gifts
